Wandering with the Wolverines – 2018

Michigan fans got a sneak-peak at Harbaugh and the team through Amazon’s incredibly well-done, “All or Nothing” documentary this year.  If you haven’t watched it yet, check it out on Amazon Prime.  It will definitely get you fired up for the upcoming season.

With that under your belt, let’s take a look at the 2018 University of Michigan schedule to see if you can make some plans for a weekend of sports travel – centered of course, around the Wolverines.

2018 Michigan Wolverines Football Schedule

Sep. 1
notre-dame1 at Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Notre Dame Stadium, Notre Dame, IN
Opening weekend should be a great one! The Wolverines travel to South Bend to take on the Irish.  If you’re flying into Chicago, plan to stop by Comiskey (it sounds much better than Guaranteed Rate Field) to catch the Red Sox vs the White Sox either Friday or Sunday. If you’d rather stick to football, hit Kalamazoo for a Friday night matchup between Western Michigan and Syracuse.

Sep. 8
 western-michigan1 Western Michigan Broncos
Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, MI
The home opener has Western Michigan in town. You can catch the Tigers vs Cardinals on Friday and/or Sunday and stick around for the Monday night matchup of the Lions vs Jets to see Sam Darnold’s first NFL start.

Sep. 15
 smu1 SMU Mustangs
Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, MI
Not much else to do but enjoy the campus.

Sep. 22
 nebraska1 Nebraska Cornhuskers
Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, MI
Catch the Royals at Tigers on Friday before Michigan opens up B1G play on Saturday.  Then stick around for the Sunday night game as the Lions host the Patriots.

Sep. 29
 northwestern1 at Northwestern Wildcats
Ryan Field, Evanston, IL
The Cubs host the Cardinals in a late season baseball game on Friday. Then head up to Evanston on Saturday. Stick around for the Bears vs the Buccaneers on Sunday to cap off your weekend!

Oct. 6
 maryland1 Maryland Terrapins (HC)
Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, MI
It’s homecoming weekend and it’s another opportunity to catch both the Wolverines and the Lions with Green Bay in town for a Sunday afternoon game.

Oct. 13
 wisconsin1 Wisconsin Badgers
Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, MI
Eastern Michigan is home next door against Toledo, but until game times are announced, we don’t know if you’ll be able to easily make it a double-header.

Oct. 20
 michigan-st1 at Michigan State Spartans
Spartan Stadium, East Lansing, MI
Nothing happening yet, so you’ll have to see if the Tigers make a run into the post-season.  And check back after the NBA and NHL schedules are released to see if the Pistons or Wings are in town.

Oct. 27
 michigan1 OFF
The Wolverines rest up for revenge against Penn State after last year’s letdown in Happy Valley.

Nov. 3
 penn-st1 Penn State Nittany Lions
Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, MI
Not sure you need anything other than Penn State coming to town to make this a great weekend, but Eastern is hosting Central next door.  With baseball crowning their champion already, you’ll have to wait on the NBA and NHL schedules.

Nov. 10
 rutgers1 at Rutgers Scarlet Knights
High Point Solutions Stadium, Piscataway, NJ
Just up the road, the Jets host the Bills on Sunday and you’ll likely have some additional basketball and hockey options.

Nov. 17
 indiana1 Indiana Hoosiers
Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, MI
The Lions will host Carolina on Sunday.

Nov. 24
 ohio-st1 at Ohio State Buckeyes
Ohio Stadium, Columbus, OH
The Game! Worth the trip by itself, but if you want to try to make something more of it, fly in and out of Cincinnati.  You’ll be able to catch the Bearcats vs East Carolina on Friday, then the Bengals vs Baker Mayfield and the Browns on Sunday.
Dec. 1
 big-ten-logo-70 Big Ten Championship Game
Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN
Hard to believe, but Michigan has yet to participate in the B1G Championship Game.  Is this their year?  We’ll see.  I’m sure their fans will show up in force.  If you make it to Indy, head south to Cincy on Sunday to catch the Bengals vs Broncos.

Plenty of options to catch the Wolverines, at home or on the road, and maximize your travel dollars by turning a Saturday game into a weekend event.

What’s your favorite?

Stop wondering. Start wandering!
