Wandering with the Pokes – 2018

Stillwater, like many college towns, makes it difficult to combine a college game with a professional game.  With Oklahoma City being the largest nearest city, you’re relegated to the Thunder as the only major sports team.  So, as a Cowboy fan, you might have a better shot at parlaying a road game into a sport-spectating weekend.  Of course, that would mean you’d have to miss out on all of the local haunts in Stillwater, like Eskimo Joe’s or Willie’s Saloon.

Let’s take a look to see if there’s something that might work.

Date   Opponent Time/TV
Saturday
Sep. 1
 missouri-st1 Missouri State Bears
Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK
Time TBA
TV TBA
Nothing on the calendar yet and with an FCS opponent to open the season, you might want to hold off on the trip to Stillwater.

Saturday
Sep. 8
 south-alabama1 South Alabama Jaguars
Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK
Time TBA
TV TBA
Nothing again!  And really, with the South Alabama Jags, is it worth it?

Saturday
Sep. 15
 boise-st1 Boise State Broncos
Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK
Time TBA
TV TBA
This might be a game worth the travel, but you’ll have to check out some other calendars to see if it’s worth it.

Saturday
Sep. 22
 texas-tech1 Texas Tech Red Raiders
Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK
Time TBA
TV TBA
The four-game home stand comes to a close this week with the Red Raiders and the opening of B12 play.

Saturday
Sep. 29
 kansas1 at Kansas Jayhawks
Memorial Stadium, Lawrence, KS
Time TBA
TV TBA
Catch some late season baseball Friday night with the Royals hosting the Indians. Or try to make it a double-header on Saturday.

Saturday
Oct. 6
 iowa-st1 Iowa State Cyclones
Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK
Time TBA
TV TBA
Nothing nearby again!

Saturday
Oct. 13
 kansas-st1 at Kansas State Wildcats
Bill Snyder Family Stadium, Manhattan, KS
Time TBA
TV TBA
With the Chiefs on the road this weekend, you’ll have to see if the Royals make a post-season run if you want to combine events.

Saturday
Oct. 20
OFF

Saturday
Oct. 27
 texas1 Texas Longhorns
Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK
Time TBA
TV TBA
You might be able to catch some pre-season hoops with the Thunder.

Saturday
Nov. 3
 baylor1 at Baylor Bears
McLane Stadium, Waco, TX
Time TBA
TV TBA
McLane Stadium is on my bucket list of stadiums to see.  It’s unique in that it’s one of the few college stadiums accessible by water. Waco sits about 90 minutes south of Dallas, but the Cowboys are scheduled for a Monday night game against the Titans.  Maybe the Mavs or Stars will be in town on Sunday to stretch your weekend.

Saturday
Nov. 10
 oklahoma1 at Oklahoma Sooners
Gaylord Family OK Mem. Stadium, Norman, OK
Time TBA
TV TBA
All you need is Bedlam.  This time it’s in Norman.  With the NBA underway, you might get lucky with the Thunder in town.

Saturday
Nov. 17
 west-virginia1 West Virginia Mountaineers
Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK
Time TBA
TV TBA
Again, with the game in Stillwater, you might want to check out the Thunder schedule – or just settle for a late-season game that should be a good one.  Who knows, maybe the Pokes will host a wresting match this week.

Saturday
Nov. 24
 tcu1 at TCU Horned Frogs
Amon G. Carter Stadium, Fort Worth, TX
Time TBA
TV TBA
Thanksgiving weekend means the Cowboys are home, but this time on a Thursday night against Washington. Stretch your weekend to include the season finally against TCU.

Saturday
Dec. 1
 big12-logo-70 Big 12 Championship Game
AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX
Time TBA
TV TBA
If the Pokes make it to the B12 Championship, you’ll have another chance to catch the Cowboys, but again, on another Thursday night.  This time against the Saints.

Not too many options here, but you can certainly visit a couple of venues worth checking out.

What’s your plan?

Stop wondering. Start wandering!
